One of the highlights of my summer last year was participating in the annual altered books competition at the Light Street branch of the Enoch Pratt Public Library. I know what you’re thinking: librarians are inviting people to basically destroy books in the name of artistic experimentation and the quest for amazing prizes?
In a word: YES. These are the most amazing librarians.
So, you shouldn’t actually destroy a library book — but a discard will do. Last year, I chose a hardcover Jackie Collins novel (Rock Star!) and dug within it holes galore…and I won! This year, that happy paper hole digger and prize winner could be you.
Here’s the registration form you need to enter. Deadline for submissions is August 5, so get to it! (I’m looking at you, UBalt MFAers. 🙂 )
