What happens when we close our eyes and follow our brains wherever they may take us? For this so-far-untitled book, I let my mind wander from the inside of my eyelids, to my childhood farm, and to the sky above. It may make sense only to me in the end…and that’s okay.
I started building the brain structure a while ago with the idea that I might physically open it up…but then I got stuck on how the pages might be bound. As it turns out, we all have two lobes and a gate fold inside us…held together with a hidden magnet. 🙂
Once I got over the worry of whether the thing would open properly, I very much enjoyed the quiet of sewing on the tough recycled paper outer layer and pages. I had used French knots and running lines to create trees and fields for another project, so it was fun to be able to incorporate them into a tiny map of the farm. And incorporating paints, markers, and embroidery floss gave me some new kinds of layers to play with. Enjoy!
